Canal Corporation Announces St. Johnsville to Open Marina Bath House for Boaters and Campers
Project Received Funding from NYS Canal Corporation as Part of Awards by Governor Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Councils.
ALBANY—The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that a new bath house it helped fund at the marina in St. Johnsville along the Erie Canal will open to the public on Saturday.
The Canal Corporation, through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Councils, had awarded the Montgomery County village $150,000 in 2013 for the bath house, which will be used by boaters on the Erie Canal, bikers on the Erie Canalway Trail and patrons of nearby campgrounds. St. Johnsville provided matching funds to complete the project.
“This is yet another reason boaters on the Erie Canal should stop at the St. Johnsville marina,” said Brian U. Stratton, Canal Corporation director. “This project enables people to spend more time in the region and find out why St. Johnsville is one of the friendliest towns in the Mohawk Valley.”
The bath house, which will be officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon, features showers and a laundry facility.
“We hope this bath house will help support our downtown businesses, historic sites and bring more people into the community,” said St. Johnsville Mayor Bernard Barnes. “I thank Governor Cuomo and the Canal Corporation for this important investment in St. Johnsville. This is a partnership I am very grateful for.
